make your own website

Post by falkor » Sun Sep 26, 2010 8:52 pm

there are two kinds of people who want to make their own website

A) technically minded

B) not technically minded

the technically minded - don't really need advice on making their own website, they have a fair idea of what they need to do - they just get on and do it

which leaves us with people .....who really "don't have much clue"

COSTS? > http://about.ning.com/plans/

WHAT IS NING? > http://ohmygov.com/blogs/general_news/a ... -Ning.aspx

to the people who "don't have a clue" they don't even know where to start

I went to a (LONDON) community web sites conference yesterday where I saw the top forum http://www.harringayonline.com/ in action, I was amazed to find that the whole site was made with Ning

Ning has been on the go since 2005, orignally free it has gradually upped charges to level with many other similar networking applications e.g. Vbulletin

just have a look at Haringay online! to think that was made with a non technical administration staff in mind!! Ning is awesome and you can have forums, photos, videos, events, chat, badges, blog, run advertising if you want to

Ning, Vbulletin, phpBB3 these things are called "platforms" and give the person wishing to run a website the choice of which software will do the job

do you know of another "platform"? I have suggested "Ning" (above) can you outline another? :tooT:

Pat Bob Parr added this one on NT (which is not as powerful but is very very reasonable if it has what you want :tooT: )

clickpic is a really good quality and cheap choice!! totally agree with that one cited by Bob

so anybody else interested in making their own website? or anybody who has? would be interested in hearing people's tips :green:
