Red alert issued for Chilean volcano

Post by rob42 » Mon Dec 24, 2012 1:20 am

Chile has raised the alert level for the Copahue volcano to red, the highest possible, as seismic activity is detected at the Copahue volcano.

The 3,000m (10,000ft) volcano is in Argentina's south-western Neuquen province, near the Chilean border and began spewing ash and gas on Saturday morning.

In Argentina, the authorities have told residents of local villages to monitor the situation.

Many people have already left the area as a precaution.

Ash has been raining down on both sides of the border.

http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/ ... 54024.html looks terrible
A volcano in the Caulle Cordon of southern Chile erupted violently last year, forcing the cancellation of hundreds of flights and the evacuation of more than 3,500 people.
Don't fancy being evac'd :sahnt: and the sight of that ash is making me cough! :vwide:
